I’ve just got to share this “almost there” NEWS. (Um? Do I speak too soon I shrug?) NO worries as i just can’t go along with “not tempting fate” on this occasion. Not for this. I’ve just got to share. Ok. It’s not formally agreed yet. But please. I can’t sit still on this. If it all goes belly up then what’s new? The campaign has been beset with set backs over and over. We’ll survive. So, here it is.

Since Eastbourne’s 2018 Protestival event, the Engels in Eastbourne Campaign has been campaigning for EASTBOURNE’s RADICAL HISTORY to be known and celebrated. One of the aims (there are many!) is to achieve a fitting commemoration of Paul Robeson at the Winter Garden.

Well, at long last, yesterday’s meeting at the Winter Garden has gotten us a HUGE step forward to achieving this aim. (We have hope). Remember, Paul Robeson performed in the Floral Room for over a decade to sell-out crowds who could not get enough of him, according to the rave newspaper revues of the day. (See the website).

Eastbourne just loved Paul Robeson!!

So. You can’t imagine how excited (and relieved) I am to have received such a “let’s do this” positive response from the Winter Garden. There are loads of Ts to cross and is to dot etc…….

I’ll keep everyone posted of developments. We are aiming for an “opening” event during Black History Month….October.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me banging on for nearly a decade now! But, the Campaign very well might achieve at least one of its Engels in Eastbourne/Peoples Eastbourne campaign aims.

What a party we may have coming down the line soon!
