Radical History Stall at The View

It was the Radical History Stall at The View Hotel Eastbourne over the weekend (22/23rd November), and it was great meeting new people who were pleased to hear about our Unite the Union history and the other Radical History of Eastbourne including George Meek the Bath Chair Man, Eleanor Marx, Friedrich Engels, Paul Robeson, The Mackintosh Rebellion et al.

We met so many people:- people who had newly moved here and had no idea of Eastbourne’s radical history. People who told us about their union connections; about their knowledge of Eastbourne’s history generally, about their specific experiences of having worked at the Eastbourne Centre when it was the Transport and General Workers Union Recuperation Hotel (before it became The View for tourism). We met Unite the Union educators who were here in Eastbourne delivering training.

We met self-acclaimed “Marxists”, “capitalists” “staunch Tories”, no matter what…… there was something for everyone.

It was so good to meet you all. And thank you to everyone who helped set up the stall and to the many others who support our campaigning in a multitude of ways. Hopefully there will be more stalls like this to come.

We’ll keep you posted.
