MICK JONES, THE ‘MURAL’ AND THE VIEW HOTEL

2 central panels of the Eastbourne International Workers' Mural
The 2 central panels exhibited at the Towner until 28th September

Mick Jones was one of the Workers Cooperative artists who painted the International Workers Mural that used to be displayed along the balcony overlooking the reception and restaurant area at the Transport and General Workers Union recuperation hotel for workers (now The View Hotel).

The mural was 89 foot long. It was removed in 2014 when the hotel (by now owned by Unite the Union) was renovated for tourism. The mural is now in storage in the Birmingham Unite office.

But great news, the 2 central panels are on display in the Sussex Modernism Exhibition at the Towner Eastbourne until 28th Sept. We do hope you are able to visit the exhibition. This may be a last chance for a while before the mural is again on public view.

And more good news, there is ‘Pay What you Can entry’ on September 5th. Also, there is a Discussion Panel What Does It Mean To Be Together on at the Towner, hosted by the exhibition curator, Dr Hope Wolf. One of the 3 panelists will be talking about the mural.
