
Len Caine was for many years a pivotal figure in the Trade Union movement in Eastbourne. He served as Secretary of the Eastbourne Trades Council and was an active member of the TGWU (now Unite).
He was a Labour councillor in Eastbourne for nearly 20 years, and fought both the 1974 and 1979 elections. It was during this time that helped arrange the unveiling of the Engels Plaque on May Day 1976 at 4 Cavendish Place.
He remained active in both the Labour and Trade Union movement until his death in 2008, aged 81.
He was also on the Community Health Council and a member of the governing body at Tollgate School in Eastbourne for many years. He was made an Honorary Alderman of the Borough in 1993.
